A content management system (CMS) is software installed on a web server which allows multiple people to manage the pages, text, images and documents on a website without requiring them to have knowledge of the technical aspects of creating and maintaining a website.
EVMS’ current website runs on the open-source CMS Joomla!, but there are many other options available. Part of our charge to iFactory is to determine our needs with regard to a CMS, evaluate our needs against other available systems, and make a recommendation about whether we should continue to use Joomla! or switch to another CMS.
A major upgrade of Joomla!, with many new features, was released in January 2011, so building the new website with the most recent version of Joomla! is a possibility. But we want to make sure we have the best system for our specific circumstances. Stay tuned.
